“The lessons of love can be costly and the price of wisdom very steep. Yet, these initially unwelcomed tutorials hold seeds of great potential to liberate us to live more authentic and meaningful lives."
- Katherine Woodward Thomas
What Cost, Wisdom?
I don’t love the fact that my life has been filled with so many obstacles, many of which were imposed both by the symptoms of ADHD and my unlearned (at the time) responses to those symptoms. I’m guessing that whether or not you have ADHD, you wish your life weren’t so hard, too!
But I will say this – I am 100% convinced that it is precisely the struggles that my husband and I have had that has made us the strong people we are today. In our different ways we have learned the power of compassion and empathy, the strength that comes from being true to ourselves while taking others into consideration, and how to truly love another without shaping that person. Suffice it to say, while we were both good people, this is NOT where we started.
As you go through your own struggle, I urge you to ask yourself this question – what wisdom have I gained that I can celebrate?
