My partner has ADD and depression/anxiety. She's having major surgery next week. When she had minor surgery a few months ago her depression seemed to heighten for a few weeks. I'm concerned it will be worse this time around because she will be under more anesthesia for a longer period of time. Has anyone else noticed this when their partner has surgery? Does anyone have any ideas about how to minimize an uptick in post-surgical ADD/depression symptoms? Thank you.

only thing i can recommend would be potentially -
1) upticking exercise in their life - take on extra duties to help them find time to exercise
2) execise with them - relax, and just enjoy.
3) I dont know if she takes drugs or not, but if she dosent take any sort of drug for depression or anxiety - you could consider a supplement of st. johns wort or 5-htc if she is willing to try it * note : make sure she dosent take depression/anxiety drugs as the combination could produce a seretonin shock - beyond that name you dont want to know what it is, unless you google it.
4) meditation might help, wont fix the problem, but sitting still and letting their mind wander a bit where it wants - not trying to control it - until it just kinda slows down on its own..will help her observe how she is thinking about things, thus i suggest doing this with her. If you havent done it before, try it once yourself - look up transendental meditation, and just sit with your eyes closed for 15 min or so a day. ( start by doing as much as you want - its the best way to start it)
plus meditate together.
so besides execise, potential supplements, meditation - their isnt much you can do. i Suspect a good diet and good sleep come in really handy and potentially having those moments where she works through some of the depression that pops up could be even more important, but none the less..hang in their
